In a recent report, A Spor stated that Newcastle United are showing interest in Fenerbahce keeper Altay Bayindir. It has been revealed that the Magpies are prepared to offer €17m for the Turkish shot-stopper when the transfer window reopens in January.
Bayindir’s Decent Run Of Form At The Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium
Bayindir has made an impressive start to this campaign after managing to put in a few solid displays in goal for the Turkish outfit. The 23-year-old has shipped in 12 goals and secured four clean sheets in 12 matches for Fenerbahce this season across various competitions.
The talented custodian deserves a pat on the back for averaging 0.6 clearances and 4.6 long balls per game in the Turkish Super Lig. However, he has been a bit sloppy when distributing possession from the back after making 61.5% of his attempted passes in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
Bayindir is slowly but surely starting to prove his worth as a reliable goalkeeper but there are some concerns over whether he can perform at a high level at St. James’ Park where he might struggle to cope with the physical nature and high intensity of English football.
Is Bayindir A Good Option For The Magpies?
Bayindir possesses decent reflexes that help him pull off a few solid saves at the back. He can make some quick dives to deny the opposition a goal and is not shy of coming out of his penalty area to clear the danger when required.
Newcastle boss Steve Bruce has currently got Karl Darlow or Martin Dúbravka fighting for a regular starting spot in his first-team. However, Bayindir could be an upgrade over them as he has the potential to become a world-class keeper for them someday.
All in all, the Turkish keeper will be a good option for the Tyneside giants to pursue during the winter transfer period as he could help them steer clear of relegation trouble in the second half of this Premier League campaign. At 23, the future is quite promising for Bayindir, so Newcastle United should think about launching a concrete offer for his services.
