According to Fichajes, Tottenham have expressed interest in Umar Sadiq. The Almeria forward has made a solid impression with his performances in the Spanish second division, tempting the Premier League giants to monitor his progress. Spurs have identified him as a potential target in case Harry Kane leaves the club early, with the player set to cost around €30 million.
Who Is Umar Sadiq?
Formerly of Spezia and AS Roma academy, Umar Sadiq has enjoyed a great level of success since moving to Partizan in 2019. The forward was involved in 42 goals in 52 competitive matches during his time in Serbia before eventually earning a €5 million move to Almeria last summer.
Sadiq has showcased his quality at his new club as well, notably racking up 20 goals and 7 assists during his debut season in Segunda Division. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to help Almeria gain promotion to the top flight.
The Nigerian forward ended up remaining at the club, even starting the season with six goals and three assists in nine league matches. Standing at 1.92m, Sadiq has impressed the onlookers with his physical and aerial prowess, with Almeria using him as an out and out target man.
It is apparent that the former Partizan man is far too good for the Spanish second division. As such, he will be keen on taking the next step in his career, with Tottenham among clubs keen on acquiring his services.
A Good Option For Tottenham Hotspur?
Tottenham Hotspur are on the hunt for new forwards as they look to prepare for life without Harry Kane next season. But perhaps more importantly, the Englishman has struggled with form in these early parts of the campaign, failing to even find a single goal in the Premier League so far.
Sadiq fits the bill perfectly due to his ability to act as a number nine. It could make him an ideal target man for the likes of Son Heung-Min, Lucas Moura and Giovani Lo Celso. These players specialise in creating chances in the final third, often attacking the bylines or putting balls into the box through set-pieces.
It serves as an ideal environment for Sadiq, who has the ability to sniff goalscoring opportunities. While it remains to be seen whether or not the Nigerian can replicate his performances in the Premier League, he can certainly prove to be an ideal alternative for Kane during the second half of the campaign.
For a fee of just €30 million, Sadiq isn’t particularly an expensive option either, even though he does not have much experience at the highest level of football. As such, he could be a shrewd target for Tottenham in the upcoming January transfer window.
