In a recent report, Sport stated that Barcelona are keeping a keen eye on Liverpool forward Divock Origi ahead of a potential move in January. It is understood that the Belgian international’s name is on Barca’s shortlist for this winter transfer market as they look to add some attacking reinforcements next year.
Origi’s Impressive Form At Merseyside This Season
Origi has served the role of a squad player quite well at Anfield this season by putting in a couple of impressive displays before this international break. The Belgian international has registered one goal and two assists in four matches for the Reds so far in this campaign across all competitions.
The 26-year-old has already matched his goals and assists tally from last season when he averaged 0.8 shots and 0.2 key passes per game in Premier League football, mainly because most of his appearances came off the bench. Origi deserves credit for distributing possession with conviction in the opponent’s half based on his pass completion rate of 80.4% in the English top-flight (stats via whoscored).
The Oostende-born striker has proven his worth as a valuable player in Jurgen Klopp’s match-day squad but he could be tempted with a chance to join Barca where he might have a better chance of securing regular first-team football over the next few years.
Should Barca Move In For Origi In January?
Origi has got decent pace under his belt and can make some good runs in behind the opposition backline. He is a decent finisher in the final third and can even create a few inviting opportunities for his teammates to find the back of the net which makes him a good option for the Spanish outfit to pursue this January.
The 29-time Belgium international packs a lot of power with his shot attempts and can utilize his robust 1.85m frame to hold the ball up for his team. However, he can be inconsistent at times with his performances in the attacking end of the field.
Barca can undoubtedly use someone of Origi’s skill set as he will add some much-needed firepower to Ronald Koeman‘s attack. At the moment, the Catalan giants need to inject more quality into their squad if they are to challenge for major trophies once again in the coming seasons. Hence, it is only logical for Barca to look to someone like Origi as he will be an affordable option for them this winter.
