Johnson Tips Manchester City To Land This Bundesliga Superstar: Dream Option For Guardiola?

In a recent interview (via talkSPORT), ex-Liverpool defender Glenn Johnson tipped Manchester City to land Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland. Johnson said,

“Erling Haaland is the obvious one.

“He’s got a lot of time in front of him and looks like the type of player who would suit the Premier League. I know there’s talk of Kylian Mbappe leaving PSG, but for me, if I was a Manchester City owner and I could sign one player it would be Haaland.”

Haaland’s Incredible Numbers At Signal Iduna Park This Season

Haaland has been in red hot form for Dortmund this season as he has continued to find the back of the net regularly in German football. The Norway international banged in 11 goals and provided four assists in eight matches for the German outfit this season in various competitions.

The 21-year-old proved himself to be an excellent performer in the final third after he averaged 5.2 shots, 1.4 key passes and 1.2 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Bundesliga. However, he needs to find a way to improve his link-up play as he has made just 70.8% of his attempted passes in the German first division (stats via whoscored).

Is Haaland A Dream Option For Man City?

Haaland is a lethal presence in front of the opposition goal as he can score goals consistently at the highest level. His goal-scoring numbers seem to be getting better and better with each year at Dortmund. The Norway international has proven himself to be a man for the big occasions as he is not shy of performing at his best when the spotlight is on him.

Manchester City can undeniably use a striker of Haaland’s skillset as they are yet to replace Sergio Aguero, who joined Barcelona last summer. Pep Guardiola has currently got Gabriel Jesus as his only recognized centre-forward even though the Spanish head coach has often decided to play him on the flanks this season.

All in all, the Mancunian giants would be wise to orchestrate a move to secure Haaland’s services as he has what it takes to lead the charge at the Etihad Stadium for the next decade. The Norwegian sensation is a good old-fashioned striker who could go a long way in helping Man City maintain their dominance in English football which makes him a dream option for Guardiola to consider in the future.
