In a recent report, Fichajes claimed that Barcelona teenager Nico Gonzalez is on Manchester City’s radar. It is understood that Man City boss Pep Guardiola is eyeing a raid on his former club and could launch a move for the Catalan youngster but Barca are unwilling to sell him unless they receive a big offer for his services.
Nico Gonzalez’s Recent Rise At The Nou Camp
Gonzalez has caught the eye with his performances for Barcelona’s B team recently. At such a tender age, the Spanish midfielder has already broken into Ronald Koeman’s first team. The 19-year-old has made six senior appearances for his boyhood club thus far but is still waiting to score his first goal for the club.
The three-time Spain Under-17 international has begun to showcase what he is capable of at the Nou Camp this season but has failed to help his team pick up a run of favourable results in La Liga. Barca are currently struggling in league football after being beaten by Atletico Madrid by a 2-0 scoreline last weekend.
The Catalan club’s financial struggles could force them to cash in on some of their players and Gonzalez is no exception. Hence, if a big-money offer arrives from Man City in January or next summer, Barca might be tempted to cut Gonzalez loose so that they can ease their financial concerns going into the new campaign.

Can The Catalan Club Afford To Lose Nico Gonzalez?
Gonzalez is a moderately-paced midfielder who can make some energetic runs with the ball from midfield. He can be a decent passer of the ball when he is playing with confidence on the field. The Spanish midfield ace can use his strong 1.88m frame to dominate the opposition physically at the centre of the park.
However, Gonzalez is far from a finished product and is bound to make mistakes before he can improve and transform himself into a class act in central midfield. Barca has to figure out a way to improve their dire financial situation if they want to get back to competing for major trophies once again in the years to come.
At the moment, Ronald Koeman has got Sergio Busquets, Frenkie de Jong and Pedri as his first-team starters. Hence, if Barca manage to sign a suitable replacement for Gonzalez, they can afford to lose the promising youngster next summer. At 19, the future is quite bright for the Spaniard, but Barca doesn’t have the luxury to develop him in the coming seasons if they want to ease their financial struggles in the near future.
