According to Calciomercato, as cited by Yorkshire Post, Leeds United are in the market for Nahitan Nandez. The Whites have been put on red alert over the midfielder’s situation, with his agent recently confirming that his client could be on the move, in the upcoming January transfer window. Leeds are among the clubs interested in snapping him up, although they are set to face competition from Tottenham Hotspur.
What Is Nahitan Nandez All About?
Formerly of BOCA Juniors, Nahitan Nandez has established himself as one of the most in-demand midfielders in Serie A following his move to Cagliari in 2019. In just two and a half years, the Uruguayan international has racked up 79 competitive appearances for the Rossoblu, scoring four goals while supplying seven assists.
A central midfielder by trade, Nandez is primarily known for his aggression and the fighting mentality he offers on the pitch. Indeed, the 25-year-old can be very competitive when it comes to winning back possession or putting pressure on the opposition ball-carriers.
Not to mention, the former Penarol prodigy is extremely versatile. Despite being a central midfielder, Nandez can operate out wide if required, as well as offer creative substance in the final third. It makes him a well-rounded player in the second line of press.
Perhaps most importantly, though, the Uruguayan has that zest and vigour that often becomes important for a midfielder in the Premier League, which is a highly physical league.
Should Leeds United Sign Nandez?
Leeds United have recently secured their first victory of the season by edging out Watford this weekend. But it is apparent that they are in desperate need for reinforcements in the upcoming January transfer window. Someone like Nahitan Nandez, in that regard, could be an excellent option for the Whites and for multiple reasons.
For one, the 25-year-old offers a lot of versatility to the table which makes him not only an alternative to Mateusz Klich but also a backup to any right wing-back, should Marcelo Bielsa opt for a three at the back system.
His greatest asset is the aggressive mentality and incredible work ethic that make him an ideal fit for Bielsa’s tactical philosophy, which requires a lot of athleticism. Nahitan fits the bill perfectly and is capable of significantly improving the Leeds United team that has struggled due to the underwhelming performances of Stuart Dallas, Tyler Roberts and Mateusz Klich this season.
Hence, the Yorkshire outfit should definitely make a move to sign the Cagliari midfielders in the upcoming January transfer window, although it remains to be seen if they can beat Tottenham to his signature.
