Liverpool welcomed Manchester City at Anfield earlier this evening as they looked to pick up maximum points from this home clash. The Reds got completely dominated by Man City in the first half and were fortunate to go into the half-time interval with a goalless scoreline.
The Merseyside outfit came back strong in the second 45 minutes and got their noses ahead in the 59th minute courtesy of Sadio Mane’s goal. Just ten minutes later, Phil Foden netted a superb equalizer for the Mancunian giants when he found the back of the net from a tight angle.
Mohamed Salah scored a world-class solo goal when he made his way into the opponent’s box and scored from the tightest of angles from close range. However, Liverpool’s lead lasted for only five minutes as Kevin De Bruyne scored with his deflected attempt. The match ended with the Reds being held to an entertaining 2-2 draw.
Let’s take a look at how each Liverpool player performed during the clash against Man City.
GK: Alisson Becker – 7/10
The Brazilian keeper made some important saves in the first half to keep his team in the game at half-time. However, he won’t be happy after conceding two goals in the second half.
RB: James Milner – 6/10
Milner was a bit slow to react to the danger but worked his socks off for the benefit of his team.
CB: Joel Matip – 6/10
The Cameroonian centre-half got overrun by the Man City attackers in the first half. However, he put in a better display in the second.
CB: Virgil Van Dijk – 7/10
The Dutch defender kept his calm under pressure and dealt with the danger when needed. Still, he will be quite disappointed for allowing two goals in his watch in the second half.
LB: Andrew Robertson – 7/10
The Scottish full-back covered a lot of ground down the left flank and defended valiantly inside his half. However, his final delivery often left him down in the attacking end.
CM: Jordan Henderson – 6/10
The Liverpool midfield ace showed great desire to get on the ball but often gave away possession in the first half. He was a bit better in the second.
CM: Fabinho – 6/10
The Brazilian couldn’t help the Reds gain control of the midfield and wasted a glorious chance to find the back of the net in the second half.
CM: Curtis Jones – 6.5/10
Jones was mostly a spectator in the first 45 minutes but was a bit more lively in the second. He picked up an assist for setting up Salah’s goal.
RW: Mohamed Salah – 9/10
The Egyptian winger was a bit quiet in the first half but was unstoppable in the second. Salah set-up up Sadio Mane’s goal with a perfectly weighted pass and then, went on to score a world-class goal himself which will live long in the memories of the Liverpool fans.
ST: Diogo Jota – 6.5/10
The Portugal international led the press but never looked like he would score during his time on the field.
LW: Sadio Mane – 7/10
The Senegalese winger was always willing to run with the ball and managed to get his name on the scoresheet with a tidy finish.
Substitutes:
ST: Roberto Firmino – 6/10
He had some neat touches in the Man City half but didn’t get a sniff at goal.
RB: Joe Gomez – 6/10
