Manchester United drop points in the Premier League for the second time in a row, after being held to a 1-1 draw by Everton at Old Trafford this afternoon. It was a poor performance from the Red Devils, who were leading at half-time thanks to a goal from Anthony Martial but failed to create too many clear cut opportunities. In the end, Everton managed to nick a point through an Andros Townsend equaliser in the second half.
Manchester United Player Ratings Vs Everton
David de Gea 7/10
David de Gea made a crucial first-half save to deny Everton a goal but was left stranded for the Andros Townsend equaliser during the final phase of the game.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka 6/10
Aaron Wan-Bissaka wasn’t quite polished at right-back, struggling to offer much going forward. May have done a bit more defensively, though he did well for the large part.
Victor Lindelof 7.5/10
Victor Lindelof had an excellent game at the heart of the four-man backline. He looked confident in his tackles, making life difficult for the Everton attackers throughout the entirety of the game.
Raphael Varane 7/10
Raphael Varane expertly marked Salomon Rondon out of the game using his positioning sense. He was caught out on the break for the Townsend equaliser in the second half.
Luke Shaw 6.5/10
Luke Shaw was poor when closing down Doucoure for the Everton counter-attack that led to the equaliser, allowing the midfielder to spray the pass to Townsend. He did provide good services going forward, though.
Fred 5/10
It was yet another disappointing display from Fred in midfield. The Brazilian simply wasn’t competent enough in the middle of the park, especially when dealing with Demarai Gray for the Everton counterattack.
Scott McTominay 6/10
Scott McTominay had started the game well, but he was very ineffective with his forays into the Everton third. Not enough quality to make a difference in the middle of the park.
Mason Greenwood 6.5/10
Mason Greenwood had an excellent start to the game, making life difficult for the opposition with his quick-feet and trickery. But his influence faded as the game progressed.
Bruno Fernandes 7/10
Bruno Fernandes was the creator in chief for Manchester United in the final third, creating multiple scoring opportunities for his team. The only reliable attacking player for the Red Devils this afternoon.
Anthony Martial 7/10
An excellent shift from Anthony Martial in the final third, scoring the all-important opener. He wasn’t completely involved in the game but did his job when required.
Edinson Cavani 6/10
Edinson Cavani’s header was denied by Jordan Pickford in the first half. It was the only real chance for the veteran striker, who eventually made way for Cristiano Ronaldo around the hour mark.
SUBSTITUTES
Cristiano Ronaldo 6/10
Added the much-needed energy to Manchester United’s attacking play but didn’t provide enough to change the game.
Jadon Sancho 6.5/10
Jadon Sancho looked promising, often taking on opposition defenders out wide and creating a few excellent chances in the final third.
Paul Pogba 6.5/10
Paul Pogba added the much-needed quality in midfield and should have been brought on much sooner.
