Everton faced off against Manchester United at Old Trafford earlier today as they looked to grind out a good result on the road. The Toffees made a strong start to the game but conceded a goal just before the half-time break when Anthony Martial scored for Man United with a great finish. The Merseyside club were trailing 1-0 at half-time.
Rafael Benitez’s men grew in confidence in the second half and found the leveler in the 65th minute when Andros Townsend found the back of the net with a neat finish. Yerry Mina scored a late goal which was disallowed as the match finished 1-1 with Everton securing a vital point at the Theatre of Dreams.
Let’s take a look at how each Everton player fared during the match against the Red Devils.
GK: Jordan Pickford – 7/10
The English keeper made some important saves at the back and did well to restrict the Man United attackers to just one goal.
RB: Ben Godfrey – 7/10
Godfrey got stuck in with some solid tackles and cleared the danger quite well when getting stretched inside his half. He also made one good chance in the final third.
CB: Yerry Mina – 7/10
The South American sensation was a rock at the back as he commanded his own penalty box with authority and conviction. He was caught off-side and had his late goal chalked off because of it.
CB: Michael Keane – 6.5/10
He was strong in the air but was a bit untidy with his passing. Still, it was a solid defensive display from him against his old club.
LB: Lucas Digne – 7/10
The French left-back performed his defensive duties well and created a couple of decent chances in the opponent’s half.
RM: Andros Townsend – 8/10
Townsend was a constant threat when the Toffees were looking to break on the counter. He finished off a fantastic Everton move and scored the all-important equalizer in the 65th minute.
CM: Abdoulaye Doucoure – 7.5/10
Doucoure worked his socks off at the centre of the park and managed to make life difficult for the home team. He set up Townsend’s leveller with a perfectly weighted pass.
CM: Allan – 6.5/10
The Brazilian anchored the midfield well but struggled to make an impact in the attacking end of the pitch.
LM: Anthony Gordon – 7/10
He was full of energy and running down the left wing and created a couple of decent chances for his teammates to score.
CAM: Demarai Gray – 7/10
Gray used his pace to cause all sorts of problems for the opposition and got a couple of good looks to find the back of the net. However, there was no goal for him today.
ST: Salomon Rondon – 6.5/10
Rondon kept himself busy by stretching the Man United defence. However, he lacked the cutting edge in front of the opponent’s goal.
Substitutes:
CM: Tom Davis – 6/10
He did enough to see out the draw.
ST: Lewis Dobbin – N/A
The 18-year-old hardly had any time to influence the game.
