Manchester United are hoping to get back to winning ways as they take on Everton on Saturday. The Red Devils slumped to a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Aston Villa in their last Premier League game and were lucky to get away with a narrow victory against Villarreal in midweek. Securing three more points could be vital as they look to keep up with the English giants in the title race.
Everton, meanwhile, have found their feet nicely under new coach Rafa Benitez. The former Liverpool boss has led his team to four wins in six matches that sees the Toffees currently stand fifth in the Premier League table. But they did get knocked out of the Carabao Cup by QPR before securing a win over Norwich City in the last game week. Manchester United could be the biggest fish yet as they look to continue their good momentum.
Manchester United Vs Everton Tactical Preview
Talking Tactics
Manchester United
Ole-Gunnar Solskjaer is unlikely to shift away from his 4-2-3-1 setup that requires a double-pivot to control the game. Bruno Fernandes should operate in the number ten role as usual, but with a greater degree of freedom as far as his offensive and defensive duties are concerned. The same can be said for Paul Pogba, who might drift into central roles, thus allowing left-back Luke Shaw to make overlapping runs out wide.
Everton
Everton’s Benitez is a far more versatile coach. But the Spaniard wouldn’t prefer too many changes either, mostly sticking with a 4-2-3-1 that can effortlessly shift into a 4-4-2 with Demarai Gray joining the lone striker Salomon Rondon in the first line of press. A lot will depend on the situation of the game, but the Toffees are certainly expected to take up a defensive stance.
Team News
Manchester United
Manchester United will continue to miss out on the services of club captain Harry Maguire while Marcus Rashford and Amad Diallo remain injured as well. There are positives, though, with Luke Shaw likely to return in contention while Ole-Gunnar Solskjare is set to field a far stronger lineup than the game against Villarreal in midweek.
Predicted Lineup: De Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Varane, Lindelof, Shaw; McTominay, Fred; Greenwood, Bruno Fernandes, Pogba; Ronaldo
Everton
Everton are missing multiple players including Seamus Coleman as well as the two main forwards in Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison. They are joined by midfielders Fabian Delph, Andre Gomes and Jean-Philippe Gbamin in the long list of absentees for the visiting team.
Predicted Lineup: Pickford; Godfrey, Mina, Keane, Digne; Doucoure, Allan; Townsend, Gray, Iwobi; Rondon
Key Men
Manchester United
Manchester United have become a very dangerous team during the late stages of the game and one player who deserves a lot of credit is Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portuguese international has rejuvenated the United forward line with his experience, winning mentality and pedigree at the highest level of football. He will be crucial once again up against a well-drilled Everton team.
Everton
Everton, on the other hand, will be relying on the services of the new attackers like Demarai Gray and Andros Townsend, both of who have performed marvellously since joining the club in the summer. Their service could be hugely important as the Toffees look to make an impact without the frontline striker Calvert-Lewin.

Manchester United 2-1 Everton
