Real Madrid welcomed Sheriff Tarispol at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium earlier tonight as they hoped to secure all three points in front of their home supporters. Los Blancos made a poor start to the game as they conceded the opening goal in the 25th minute when Jasurbek Yakhshiboev found the back of the net for the visitors. Carlo Ancelotti’s men couldn’t manage to finish off any of their chances and went into the half-time break 1-0 down on the scoreline.
Karim Benzema finally managed to score the equalizer for his team in the 65th minute when he kept his composure to convert his penalty. However, Sebastien Thrill produced a thrilling end to the game as he scored a famous winning goal for Sheriff in the 89th minute with an excellent strike from long range. The match ended with Los Blancos suffering a shock 2-1 loss at the Spanish capital.
Let’s take a look at how each Real Madrid player performed during the clash against Sheriff.
GK: Thibaut Courtois – 5.5/10
The Belgian keeper made one save throughout the game and will be quite disappointed for allowing two goals tonight.
RB: Nacho – 7/10
Nacho didn’t put a foot wrong when defending inside his half. He also created a couple of decent chances in the final third. He got replaced in the 65th minute.
CB: Eder Militao – 6/10
The Brazilian centre-back won a couple of important headers but failed to marshal his backline well enough for Los Blancos to get anything out of this game.
CB: David Alaba – 6/10
Alaba made a few errors of judgment at the back but was a threat at the other end. At least he passed the ball quite well and engineered two good opportunities for his teammates to score.
LB: Miguel Gutierrez – 6/10
Gutierrez had a lackluster game in the first half and got substituted after the hour mark.
CM: Federico Valverde – 6.5/10
The Uruguay international made a few promising runs with the ball and was also quite creative with his passing.
CM: Casemiro – 6.5/10
The Brazilian midfielder failed to protect his backline when needed but was quite bright on the ball. He was replaced in the second half.
CM: Eduardo Camavinga – 6/10
Camavinga got stuck in with a few crunching tackles but showed his inexperience at times on the field.
RW: Eden Hazard – 7/10
The Belgian showed some flashes of his brilliance but won’t be happy after failing to register a goal.
ST: Karim Benzema – 7.5/10
Benzema caused all sorts of problems for the Sheriff defenders but struggled to finish off his chances. He still ended up getting his name on the scoresheet after converting a second-half penalty.
LW: Vinicius Junior – 7.5/10
The Brazilian winger earned the all-important penalty which Benzema scored to equalize for Los Blancos. However, all of his good work was not enough for the Madrid giants to secure anything from this game.
Substitutes:
CM: Luka Modric – 6.5/10
Modric tried his best to change the dynamic of the game but was lackluster in the final third.
CM: Toni Kroos – 6.5/10
The German dominated the midfield battle but didn’t create enough openings for the front players.
ST: Rodrygo – 7/10
He showed some signs of promise by creating a handful of decent chances in the attacking end of the field.
ST: Luka Jovic – 6/10
Jovic had a couple of shots but didn’t do enough to score.
