Liverpool will clash heads with Porto at Estadio do Dragao on Tuesday night, hoping to pick up all three points on matchday 2 of the UEFA Champions League campaign. The Reds will be heading into the contest on the back of a thrilling 3-3 draw against Brentford in the Premier League, whereas the hosts recorded a 2-1 victory over Gil Vicente on Saturday.
Jurgen Klopp will probably opt for the 4-3-3 formation with a couple of tweaks from the last game. In attack, Roberto Firmino might get the nod over Diogo Jota, whereas Joe Gomez looks likely to make his way back into the starting eleven.
4-3-3 Liverpool Predicted Lineup Vs Porto
Defence
Alisson Becker will operate in between the sticks for the upcoming clash. The Brazilian shot-stopper will be hoping to put up a strong performance and secure a clean sheet on Tuesday.
Joe Gomez will replace Virgil van Dijk to form the centre-half partnership with Ibrahima Konate at the heart of Liverpool’s backline.
Konstantinos Tsimikas might start over Andrew Robertson at the left wing-back position, whereas Trent Alexander-Arnold will fill in on the other flank as the right wing-back. The full-backs will be expected to stretch their side’s attack in the opposition half.
Midfield
Fabinho might start in the holding midfield position and could be assigned with more of a defensive role to shield the home side’s back-four.
Jordan Henderson and Curtis Jones will slot into the central midfield roles. The duo would be determined to set up some clear cut goal scoring chances for the front men.
While Thiago Alcantara and Harvey Elliott remain as absentees from Jurgen Klopp’s first-team squad, Naby Keita was pictured working out at the club’s AXA training ground today.
Attack
Takumi Minamino and Mohamed Salah will take up the wide positions, playing on the left and right-wing respectively.
Roberto Firmino will lead the line for the visitors against Porto in midweek. The Brazilian international will be hoping to get his name on the scoresheet when he faces off against the Porto defence that has conceded just one goal in their last three matches across all competitions.
Diogo Jota will have to settle for a place on the bench, but he could be brought on in the latter stages of the contest if needed.
