Liverpool clashed heads with Brentford at the Brentford Community Stadium earlier this evening as they looked to secure a win and consolidate their position at the top of the Premier League table. The Reds made a slow start to the game and conceded the opening goal in the 27th minute when Ethan Pinnock found the back of the net for the Bees. However, the Merseyside giants equalized thanks to a great header from Diogo Jota just four minutes later. Both teams went into the half-time break with a 1-1 scoreline.
Mohamed Salah gave Liverpool the lead just nine minutes in the second half which was canceled out by Vitaly Janelt’s goal in the 63rd minute. Curtis Jones scored with a long-range stunner to get his team back on top of the game. However, Brentford kept fighting and found a leveler via Yoane Wissa’s finish from close range in the 82nd minute. The match finished 3-3 with both sides sharing the points.
Let’s take a look at how each Liverpool player performed during the clash against the Bees.
GK: Alisson Becker – 6/10
The Brazilian keeper made some important clearances during the game but will be enraged after conceding three goals today.
RB: Trent Alexander-Arnold – 6/10
The English full-back looked shaky at the back and was often late to react to the danger. However, he did create some decent plays going forward.
CB: Virgil Van Dijk – 7/10
The Dutch centre-back won a lot of aerial duels but looked a bit rattled at times in the second half. He won’t be pleased about dropping two points so late in the game.
CB: Joel Matip – 5/10
Matip had a good first half as he looked strong when defending inside his half. However, it was a different story for him in the second 45 minutes when he was completely dominated by the Brentford attackers.
LB: Andrew Robertson – 6.5/10
The Scottish full-back made some excellent dashes going forward but his final delivery often let him down today. Still, he managed to bag an assist.
CM: Jordan Henderson – 7/10
Henderson did his best to dictate the flow of the game and has got an assist to show for his efforts.
CM: Fabinho – 7/10
The Brazilian midfield ace was excellent on the ball and played a great pass to set up Salah’s goal. However, he failed to offer enough protection for his teammates for a lot of the second half.
CM: Curtis Jones – 8/10
Jones was always looking to get on the ball and make things happen. He scored a great goal in the second half but it was not enough for his side to win.
RW: Mohamed Salah – 7/10
Salah was a constant menace for the Bees defenders and took his goal well in the second half. However, he wasted two glorious opportunities to kill the game off.
ST: Diogo Jota – 6.5/10
Jota missed a sitter in the first half but made up for it by scoring with a decent header in the 31st minute. He was mostly quiet in the second half.
LW: Sadio Mane – 6/10
The Senegalese wide player had enough chances to ensure maximum for his team in the second half. However, he was once again quite wasteful inside the opponent’s penalty box.
Substitutes:
ST: Roberto Firmino – 5/10
The Brazilian striker looked like a player coming back from injury as he struggled to make things happen for the Reds in the final quarter of the game.
