Celtic had to shake the recent shambles tonight against Raith Rovers in the Scottish League Cup quarter-final. They were outright favourites to secure a commanding victory against the Championship side and the outcome, as predicted, went in favour of the Hoops at Paradise.
Below are the Celtic players rated in their comprehensive 3-0 win against Raith Rovers.
Joe Hart: 7
Although the visitors tried to threaten the Bhoys against the run, the veteran Englishman was rarely tested while grabbing his clean sheet tonight.
Anthony Ralston: 7
Returned to action after being dropped against Livingston. Spent most of his minutes in the Raith half, also combined well with Abada down the right-hand flank.
Cameron Carter-Vickers: 7.5
Impressed in deep defence with his strong physical and aerial presence. Could have done better at times with his passing, but the authority he had in the defensive third helped Celtic concentrate in attacking transitions.
Carl Starfelt: 7
Did well to partner Carter-Vickers in the heart of the backline. Was in the right place at the right time and was hardly troubled due to the Hoops’ dominance all throughout.
Adam Montogomery: 8
Outstanding from the left with his marauding runs, link-up play with Jota, cut insides, crosses and swift footwork. Indeed a breakthrough campaign so far for the teenager.
James McCarthy: 8.5
Was criticised for his weekend display, but the Republic of Ireland international enjoyed his time on the pitch with his passing, distribution, possessional play as well as exquisite through ball for Jota’s opener. Made way for Nir Bitton midway through the second half.
David Turnbull: 8
A decent outing for the Scotsman who offered his creative spark in and around the attacking third. Came close to finding the net on a few occasions before notching home moments after the break to make it 3-0 for the Glasgow giants.
Tom Rogic: 7.5
The Aussie playmaker controlled the midfield game with his dribbles, down the middle runs and smart one-twos outside the box. Was denied once by Jamie MacDonald in the Rovers goal. Was taken off for Ismaila Soro midway through the second half.
Liel Abada: 7.5
Lively down the right-hand flank, kept the visitors on their toes and doubled the lead at the backend of the first half. Got replaced by Josip Juranovic just over the hour mark.
Filipe Jota: 8.5
The young Portuguese grabbed his first Celtic goal around the 26th-minute mark. Showed his composure to convert McCarthy’s through ball, also played his part in Abada’s goal late in the first half.
Albian Ajeti: 6
Disappointing from the Swiss ‘number 9’ who offered little except for a few usual passes and touches inside the Raith half. Was subbed off for Liam Scales around the hour mark.
Celtic Substitutes Vs Raith Rovers
Liam Scales: 6.5
A decent half an hour of football for the young Irishman who made his Celtic debut.
Josip Juranovic: 6.5
Created a few chances from the flank since coming on as a second-half substitute.
Nir Bitton: 6.5
Added fresh legs in midfield as he helped the Hoops defend the three-goal lead.
Ismaila Soro: 6
Did not offer much in terms of attacking contribution since replacing Rogic.
