One of the causalities of Jose Mourinho’s first season has been Morgan Schneiderlin amongst a couple of other stars of the team which Mourinho inherited from Louis Van Gaal. The likes of Bastian Schweinsteiger and Morgan Schneiderlin along with Depay have found themselves on the fringes of the squad. And with the January transfer window drawing ever closer there is a considerable interest regarding Depay and Schneiderlin.
With the Frenchman expected to look for pastures new with more playing time on offer, let us take a look at 3 clubs where he can look to move.
TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR
There was intense speculation in the summer of Morgan joining his former boss at Tottenham. The pair worked brilliantly at Southampton and with Spurs embarking on a campaign with multiple competitions to compete in, squad depth was something which was of paramount importance to Pochettino.
But the curiosity of working under Jose Mourinho delayed his move and Spurs went on to sign Moussa Sissoko on the transfer deadline day. Sissoko hasn’t settled in well and there is a slight chance Pochettino might seek to re-unite with one of his most efficient players from their Southampton days.
LEICESTER CITY
Schneiderlin is predominantly a defensive minded midfielder who has the propensity to pop up with important goals once in a while. Leicester have sorely missed a dominating presence in midfield and after the departure of Kante, their centre of the park has fielded a deserted look with King and Amartey failing to establish themselves.
Schneiderlin might be tempted with the offer of Champions League football and the Foxes will not have much of an issue with his wages. An initial loan move followed by an option of a permanent move might be the best way forward.
STOKE CITY
The Potters have recovered after a horrid start and are now in the 11th place following a series of wins. But they still lack a stabilising presence in midfield and with Joe Allen being played higher up the pitch, there is a dearth of quality in the central midfield area. Adam and Whelan do not offer long-term solutions anymore. Imbula has shown promise but he needs to be paired with someone who has a strong defensive base.
In the 2013 season, Schneiderlin registered the most tackles, interceptions and highest work rate which enabled him to win the Player’s Player of the Year and Fan’s Player of the Year and established him as one of the most exciting midfield prospect in England. All this points a perfect midfielder who can shore up the midfield and at the same time infuse creativity and class.
