In a recent report, The Sun mentioned that Aston Villa defender Axel Tuanzebe wants to make his loan switch to Villa Park permanent as he is currently enjoying his spell with the West Midlands club. An insider stated,
“Axel is playing with a smile on his face and loves the reception Aston Villa fans gave him when he returned to the club.
“He’s very happy in the West Midlands and would welcome a permanent move to the club, if that was to arise.”
Tuanzebe’s Impressive Form At Villa Park So Far
Tuanzebe has made himself a regular starter in Dean Smith’s first team after sealing a loan move from Man United last summer. The Bunia-born defensive ace has been involved in four matches for the Villans this season, receiving a total of 272 minutes of playing time in all competitions.
The 23-year-old has been a solid presence at the heart of the Villans defence as he is averaging 0.7 tackles, 1.3 interceptions and 1.7 clearances per game in the Premier League. He has even distributed the ball relatively well from the defensive end of the pitch based on his pass success rate of 84.5% in the English top tier (stats via whoscored).
Tuanzebe Wants To Make His Villa Loan Switch Permanent: Big Boost For Smith?
Tuanzebe has already struck up a solid defensive partnership with Tyrone Mings even though the results have not gone their way over the past couple of matches. He is a solid tackler of the ball and can make a few crucial interceptions at the back to come to his team’s rescue every now and then.
The English defensive ace can use his robust 1.85m frame to dominate the opposition in the air and doesn’t take too many risks with his clearances. He is also proficient at playing his way out from inside his half which makes him such a good fit for Smith’s brand of football at Villa Park.
There is no doubt that Tuanzebe is good enough to earn regular first-team starts for the West Midlands club, so it is only logical for the player to seek a permanent move from Man United when his loan spell comes to an end next summer.
Following the arrival of Raphael Varane at Old Trafford, it is difficult to see a way back for Tuanzebe at Manchester. Therefore, the Villans should prioritize on snapping him up permanently at the end of this campaign if he goes on to be a top performer for them in the coming months. All in all, Tuanzebe’s desire to stay at Villa Park will be a massive boost for Smith and his chances of landing the player for the long-run.
