Liverpool attacker Roberto Firmino reportedly has an anti-Arsenal clause in his contract.
Any club except Arsenal can trigger a €98m release clause that has been put into the Brazilian’s contract. Liverpool reportedly purposefully inserted the clause to bar Arsenal from signing the player.
Arsenal previously tried to sign Luis Suarez in 2013 by bidding an absurd £40m + £1 for the Uruguayan believing it could be the release clause of him. The incident worsened the relationship between the two clubs and even Liverpool owner John Henry tweeted after this, “What do you think they’re smoking over there at the Emirates?” Suarez later went on to Join Barcelona in 2014.
Firmino lit up this season in a blistering manner as he already scored six goals and assisted six in all competition for the Reds. The Brazilian has played in all but one game in the Premier League and has established himself in the Reds starting lineup.
