Wolverhampton Wanderers clashed heads with Watford at Vicarage Road earlier today as they looked to secure their first victory of this campaign. Bruno Lage’s men struggled to make the decisive breakthrough in the first half and had to settle for a goalless scoreline at half-time.
It was a completely different story for Wolves in the second half as they finally managed to get themselves ahead courtesy of an own goal from Watford’s Francisco Sierralta in the 74th minute. Just nine minutes later, Hwang Hee-chan made the points secure as he scored the away side’s second goal from close range. The match ended with the West Midlands outfit earning an impressive 2-0 win on the road.
Let’s take a look at how each Wolves player performed during the match against the Hornets.
GK: Jose Sa – 7/10
He made a couple of solid saves and managed to secure a much-needed clean sheet on the road.
CB: Max Kilman – 7/10
Kilman kept a good shape at the back and did well to earn a shutout during the game.
CB: Conor Coady – 6.5/10
The English centre-back hardly gave away possession when playing his way out from the back. He also made some important clearances inside his half.
CB: Romain Saïss – 7/10
Saiss gave a good account of himself on the defensive end of the field and was a threat at the other end as well.
RM: Nelson Semedo – 7/10
He did his fair share of defending and produced a promising performance in the Watford half.
CM: Ruben Neves – 7.5/10
The Portuguese sensation established his authority at the centre of the park and did well to make life difficult for the opposition in midfield. He also had some encouraging moments in the final third.
CM: Joao Moutinho – 7.5/10
Moutinho used his experience well to dictate the flow of the game and orchestrated a handful of key chances for his teammates.
LM: Marcal – 7/10
He got back to defend when needed and put in an energetic display down the left flank.
RW: Francisco Trincao – 7/10
Trincao linked up play quite well with others around him but failed to find the back of the net. He got replaced after the hour mark.
ST: Raul Jimenez – 6.5/10
The Mexican striker worked hard to create some decent openings for his side but never looked like he had a goal in him.
LW: Adama Traore – 8/10
Traore ended up completing ten successful dribbles during the game as his electric pace caused all sorts of headaches for the Hornets defenders.
Substitutes:
ST: Hwang Hee-Chan – 7.5/10
The South Korean forward came on to score Wolves’ second goal which sealed the points for Bruno Lage’s team.
ST: Daniel Podence – N/A
He hardly had any time to influence the game.
