Chelsea clashed heads with Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge earlier this evening as they looked to pick up all three points on their home territory. Romelu Lukaku opened the scoreline around the 15-minute-mark to make it 1-0 for the hosts. The visitors got a couple of clear-cut chances to bag the equalizing goal, but Mateo Kovacic capitalised on Tyrone Mings’ mistake to double the hosts’ lead soon after the half-time mark. Lukaku scored another goal in added time to seal off a 3-0 victory for the Blues.

The German centre-back was a rock at the heart of Chelsea’s defence. He read the game exceptionally well at times, and it would be an understatement to say that his side would have conceded much earlier in the game if it wasn’t for his colossal work rate at the back.

The Brazilian defender made numerous last-ditch blocks – notably Ollie Watkins’ effort – and interceptions to keep his side in the game.

The Englishman won some crucial headers and made several important challenges to prevent things from getting messy at the back.
Callum Hudson-Odoi 7.5
The 20-year-old winger ran riot down Aston Villa’s right flank as he got the better of Matt Targett time and again. However, the quality of the balls that he put in the box could have been a bit better.
Marcos Alonso 7
The Spaniard looked quite shaky while fulfilling his defensive duties, but he did relatively well to stretch Chelsea’s attack down the left wing.
Mateo Kovacic 9
It was a complete performance from the Croatia international.
He set up the first goal for Romelu Lukaku via a stunning through ball and later capitalised on Tyrone Mings’ mistake to double the hosts’ lead.
Saul Niguez 6
A debut to forget for the Atletico Madrid loanee.
He struggled to adjust with the tempo of the game throughout the first half and often held on to the ball for too long, thereby slowing down his side’s attack. He fared poorly defensively as well.
Hakim Ziyech 7
The Morocco international was quite brave in possession – often trying shots or handsome passes to tear open the Villa defence. He also pressed the opposition to the best of his abilities.
