Tottenham have had a bit of a topsy-turvy ride so far in the domestic league and the Champions League. Being ousted from the Champions League could have adverse effects as their star goalkeeper, who was one of the main reasons for their 11 games unbeaten run in the league, might leave the North London club after his contract standoff as per reports.
Hugo Lloris has been a class apart for Tottenham and his brilliant display has interested European giants like Real Madrid. Although the 29-year-old still has a number of years left on his contract and is used to an occasional pay rise, those might not be enough to keep him at White Hart Lane as he wants a pay package of 100,000 pounds a week.
Going by the fierce competition that the Premier League is seeing for its top four positions, Tottenham might be ousted from the race as the season progresses. That will undoubtedly make it harder for the club to increase players’ wages given that the UCL revenue won’t flow in.
Keeping that in mind, here are 3 goalkeepers Tottenham Hotspur should consider signing if Lloris decides to leave at the end of the season.
Jordan Pickford
The 22-year-old broke into the first team after Sunderland were crippled with injuries and Moyes had no choice but to give nod to the young goalie in the absence of Vito Mannone. He has since then impressed for the Black Cats, demoting Mannone to the bench when the Italian returned to action.
He has appeared 12 times for Sunderland this season making 43 saves, keeping one clean sheet. He has a pass accuracy of 40%, but he can’t really be blamed for that as most of his kicks have been punted long. His average claim success rate is 100 and average saves per goal are 2.3. He looks like the correct and affordable option for the Lilywhites at the moment, someone who can develop into a top keeper.
Joe Hart
His place at Manchester City was solid as a rock till Pep Guardiola arrived at Etihad. The England goalkeeper had been a bit clumsy lately but he was largely responsible for City’s resilience at the back in prior seasons.
Guardiola brought in Claudio Bravo by getting rid of the England first choice keeper to Serie A side Torino on loan. He has made 13 appearances for the club making 33 saves so far, keeping three clean sheets. He has a pass accuracy of 62%. His average claim success rate is 90% and average saves per goal are 2.2. Getting hands on him might be difficult for Tottenham as City’s affluent wage structure will come in way of the North London club, though.
Jan Oblak
The Atletico Madrid keeper has been a hot prospect across Europe. The 23-year-old stopper has made 81 appearances for Atletico since making his debut for the La Liga giants back in 2014.
His reflexes are incredible and he has shown time and again his prowess to keep out close range shots. He has appeared 14 times so far, making 23 saves this season keeping seven clean sheets. He has a pass accuracy of 59%. His average claim success rate is 93% and average saves per goal are 2.09.
He could definitely be the best option for Tottenham but again, he won’t come easy.
