In a recent report, Marca stated that Real Madrid are hoping to sign Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba next summer when he could be available on a free transfer. It is understood that Los Blancos are willing to give the French playmaker a chance to seal a move to the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium at the end of this campaign with less than 12 months remaining in his Man United contract.
Pogba’s Improved Form For Man United Last Season
The 28-year-old enjoyed a decent run of form at Manchester as he put in a series of influential performances as a valuable member of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s midfield in the previous campaign. The French sensation made 42 appearances for the Red Devils last season, finding the back of the net on six occasions and grabbing nine assists across various competitions.
Pogba was a consistent performer at the heart of Man United’s midfield based on his average of 1.4 tackles, 1.0 interceptions, 1.4 clearances, 1.2 shots, 1.0 key passes and 1.7 dribbles per 90 minutes in the 2020-21 Premier League campaign. He was even exceptional when distributing the ball from midfield after making 83% of his attempted passes in the English top tier (stats via whoscored).
Pogba has made a positive start to this campaign as well as he has already picked up five assists in three league matches for Solskjaer’s team. However, the France international is under contract at Old Trafford until next summer which could open the door for Los Blancos to secure his services on a free transfer.
Is Pogba A Good Option For Carlo Ancelotti?
Pogba has got the ability to be an influential presence at both ends of the field. He can make some solid tackles to secure the ball back for his team and has got the eye to play a decisive pass in the opposition half. The Frenchman can create chances out of nothing and is a tidy finisher in the final third. He can even strike the ball purely and with venom from long range.
Real Madrid have been linked with a move for Pogba for a number of years now, but next summer could be their perfect chance to get the talented playmaker on board as he would be available as a Bosman transfer.
Pogba ticks all the right boxes in terms of what Carlo Ancelotti looks for in his midfielders and would be an ideal successor to Luka Modric, who is entering the final stage of his playing career at Madrid. With all things considered, the Man United star will be a good option for Los Blancos, especially because they won’t have to pay a transfer fee for him at the end of this season.
