Everton have confirmed on their official website the departure of Moise Kean, who has decided to re-sign with Juventus on a two-year loan deal. However, it has been stated that the Turin giants have the obligation to make the Italian forward’s transfer permanent from the Toffees.
Kean’s Excellent Loan Spell At Paris Last Season
Kean enjoyed a fruitful loan spell with Paris Saint-Germain last season when he produced a run of productive performances as a key member of their attack. The Vercelli-born talent banged in 17 goals and secured one assist in 41 matches for the French outfit in the previous campaign in all competitions.
The 21-year-old caught the eye by averaging 2.0 shots, 0.3 key passes and 1.0 dribbles per 90 minutes in the 2020-21 Ligue 1 season. He even distributed the ball relatively well in the opposition half after completing 78.8% of his attempted passes in the English top tier (stats via whoscored).
Kean has struggled to prove his worth in English football, so it makes a lot of sense for the promising striker to seal a return to Juventus, where he previously came through the youth ranks to break out as a first-team starter back in 2018.
Did The Toffees Make The Right Call With Regards To Kean?
Kean has decent pace in his locker and can make some well-timed runs in the attacking end of the pitch. He can link up play well with others around him and did well to add plenty of goals to his game last season. The nine-time Italy international is proficient at getting a few shots in on-target and has transformed himself into a decent finisher in front of the opposition goal in French football. However, he still has a lot of room for improvement in his game.
Kean knows that if he wants to get better, he would need to ensure regular first-team football which was simply not possible for him at Goodison Park as both Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin remain Everton’s first-choice strikers for this campaign.
Therefore, it was only fair to the player for Rafael Benitez to let him go as he was surplus to requirements at the blue half of Merseyside. Even though Kean’s departure is on a two-year loan deal, Juve have the obligation to buy him permanently, so it seems like Benitez has made the right call with regards to the Italian’s future as both parties can now move on in search of some success in the years to come.
