Liverpool fans every right to be heartbroken right now after their collapse against Bournemouth. From winning 1-3, they lost the game 4-3 after a late show from the Cherries. It is not the end of the world, though. The fans will hope that the team will learn from their mistakes and bounce back stronger as Klopp mentioned in his post-match press conference.
Liverpool’s defending has always been below par. You cannot simply win every game by just outscoring teams. The defenders looked clueless in the dying minutes of the Bournemouth game and ended up conceding twice in the final 14 minutes of regulation time and once during the added time. These are the games where you get to realise how important a defensive midfielder is to a team.
Italian website Calciomercato claims that Inter Milan are prepared to part ways with Geoffrey Kondogbia who is out of favour at San Siro right now. The 23-year-old has found life hard in Italy since his switch from Monaco in the summer of 2015.
His struggles in Italy does not mean that he is not a quality player, though. There are many players who have failed to impress in Serie A over the years but have done a brilliant job outside Italy.
When a player lacks confidence, it is the job of the manager to help him fight that and get back to his usual best which neither Mancini nor de Boer nor Pioli could do. But, Jürgen Klopp is a manager of a whole another strata. The way he motivates his players as well as the fans is praise-worthy and Kondogbia can potentially reach his true heights under the former Borussia Dortmund manager.
The Frenchman was always a very highly-rated player and was impressive since a very young age, be it at Lens, Sevilla or Monaco. He can play either as a central midfielder or a defensive midfielder and is strong in tackles as well as being a brilliant reader of the game.
With his big frame of 6’2″, he can bring a much-needed physical presence in Liverpool midfield which the Reds lack.
A watchful protector of the back four and strong aerially, Kondogbia is also a good passer of the ball. His excellent dribbling skills make him an ideal player in the system Liverpool work in.
He would fit in nicely in the middle of the pitch for Liverpool in being a very capable balanced option, for Klopp. With Inter willing to let him go, Klopp should have no second thought before bringing the Frenchman to Anfield.
