West Ham United entertained Leicester City at the London Stadium earlier tonight as they looked to secure all three points in front of their home fans. The Hammers made a quick start to the game and took the lead in the 26th minute courtesy of Pablo Fornals’ goal. Ayoze Perez was shown a red card in the 40th minute which made life even more difficult for the Foxes. West Ham controlled the game well and went into the half-time break with a one-goal lead.
Said Benrahma doubled his team’s advantage in the 56th minute before Michail Antonio went on to score a brace in the final quarter of the game. The match ended with the Hammers securing a dominant 4-1 win at East London.
Let’s take a look at how each West Ham player fared during the match against the Foxes.
GK: Łukasz Fabiański – 6/10
The Polish keeper didn’t have a save to make in the game but will be disappointed after conceding a goal in the second half which ruined his hopes of a clean sheet.
RB: Vladimír Coufal – 7.5/10
He defended quite well inside his half and had a couple of bright moments in the Leicester half. Coufal ended the game with an assist to his name.
CB: Craig Dawson – 7/10
Dawson cleared his lines when needed and did enough to keep Jamie Vardy quiet. He was also a goal threat at the other end.
CB: Angelo Ogbonna – 6.5/10
Ogbonna didn’t have to do too much defending but deserves credit for passing the ball accurately from the back. He will be happy with the clean sheet today.
LB: Aaron Cresswell – 6/10
Cresswell did what was asked of him defensively but struggled to influence the game in the final third.
CM: Tomas Soucek – 7/10
He was strong in the air and was not shy of having a shot at goal. However, there was no goal for him tonight.
CM: Declan Rice – 8.5/10
The English midfield ace hardly gave away the ball and protected his backline relatively well throughout the game. He also secured an assist for setting up Antonio’s first goal.
RW: Jarrod Bowen – 7.5/10
Bowen got stuck in with some solid tackles and made multiple key opportunities for his teammates to score.
CAM: Pablo Fornals – 8/10
The Spaniard was a constant menace for the Leicester defenders and scored the opener with a tidy finish from close range.
LW: Said Benrahma – 8.5/10
Benrahma scored the decisive second goal for the Hammers in the 56th-minute and ended the game with an assist to his name as well.
ST: Michail Antonio – 10/10
Antonio scored two quick-fire goals in the latter stages of the game and became West Ham’s top scorer in the process. It was a dream night for the talented centre-forward. He also earned an assist for creating Benrahma’s goal.
Substitutes:
ST: Andriy Yarmolenko – N/A
He hardly had any time to make an impact.
CM: Mark Noble – N/A
The midfield veteran came off the bench to run the clock down for West Ham.
