In a recent report, AS revealed that Real Madrid are planning to keep Luka Jovic beyond this summer. It is understood that Los Blancos boss Carlo Ancelotti is willing to offer the Serbian striker a chance to prove his worth at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium this season.
Jovic’s Unimpressive Loan Spell At Frankfurt Recently
Jovic struggled to impress during his loan spell with Eintracht Frankfurt last season as he failed to be prolific for them in front of the opponent’s goal. The Serbian sensation made 18 league appearances for the German outfit in the previous campaign, finding the back of the net just four times and securing two assists in the process.
Most of his playing minutes came off the bench which could be why Jovic only managed to average 1.4 shots, 0.3 key passes and 0.8 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Bundesliga. Still, the 23-year-old deserves credit for being tidy with his ball distribution after completing 78.6% of his attempted passes in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
Jovic is in dire need to play regularly if he wants to get back to performing at a high level. Maybe staying at Madrid might not be the best move for him as he is most likely to play second-fiddle to Karim Benzema at the Spanish capital over the next 12 months.
Real Madrid Planning To Keep Jovic Beyond This Summer: Right Call By Los Blancos?
On his day, Jovic can be a composed finisher in the final third. However, those days have been few and far between for him at the Bernabeu. Still, the Serbian marksman can make himself useful by pulling off some energetic dashes in behind the opponent’s backline. He can even generate a yard of space for himself to test the opposition keeper. However, the lack of consistency in Spanish football has drowned his confidence in the recent past.
However, if Ancelotti believes that he can unlock the best out of Jovic, it makes sense for Los Blancos to keep hold of him beyond this summer. At 23, the Serbian talent still has plenty of time to turn his career around for the better at the Bernabeu.
If Jovic can work hard on proving his worth on the training field, he just might get a regular run of games under Ancelotti’s stewardship. Hence, it seems like the Madrid head coach is making the right call if he ends up retaining Jovic’s services for another season.
