After the recent influx of big stars, many players have moved down the pecking order at Manchester United. One such player is Morgan Schneiderlin. Having the likes of Ander Herrera, Paul Pogba, Michael Carrick and Marouane Fellaini, Mourinho has often overlooked the Frenchman.
As per reports, clubs like Everton and West Bromwich Albion are keeping tabs on the central midfielder and chances are that Mourinho would cash-in on the player this January as Victor Lindelof’s name has emerged on multiple occasions as a target for United.
The 27-year-old French international joined United from Southampton in the summer of 2015 after a glorious season with the Saints but has since then struggled to find form with his playing time largely reduced due to injury. He has appeared just twice in the league for United and eight times in all competitions.
West Bromwich have finally found their season up and running after a series of defeats. The Baggies are also in the market for a defensive midfielder in January and Schneiderlin figures highly on Tony Pulis’ wanted list.
Given his height, Schneiderlin could be a huge addition to any team in the Premier League and can also have a big impact with regular playing time under his belt. Tony Pulis abandoned the pursuit of Sporting Lisbon’s young sensation William Carvalho summer. However, he had put aside £21million to sign the Portuguese and that still remains in their transfer-chest to splash.
Schneiderlin could come in a bit more than that. He cost United £24million when he moved from Southampton last season United would want to recoup the sum they paid for him. With a player like him, who is well acquainted with the league and will head straight into the first team, Pulis shouldn’t waste time.
His height and build could come in handy for Albion and his passing accuracy doesn’t say a poor story either. He has only appeared twice for United this season in the league and although he has failed to score or provide assist of any sort, he has completed 13 passes with a pass accuracy of 87%, of which 69% were forward passes.
Schneiderlin has a brilliant sense of tackling and stops most of the threats in the middle of the park. His passing accuracy reflects how complete of a midfielder he is and he can perform at the highest level under Pulis, who is likely to give him the first team chance he is desperately looking for.
Albion currently have Darren Fletcher in the anchor position, who is, although quite consistent, entering the dusk of his career. Pulis is looking for a more vibrant option in that position to replace the slow legs.
