In a recent edition of Reach PLC’s Transfer Window podcast (via The Daily Express), Ian McGarry mentioned that Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane is set to push through a move to Manchester City this month. McGarry said, “It is our information at the Transfer Window podcast that Harry Kane will, if need be, submit a formal transfer request to Tottenham Hotspur in order to force through his move to Manchester City.
“With 14 days left of the window being open, he is determined still to make that move.
“However, Daniel Levy is also determined to extract maximum value from the sale of the player in order to furnish his team with the best possible chance obviously of replacing him and also competing during this season.”
Kane’s Excellent Form At North London Last Season
Kane had an outstanding season with Spurs recently but it once again ended in disappointment as the North London side failed to land a trophy or qualify for the UEFA Champions League. Hence, it is no surprise that the England international is not happy with how things are going for him at the English capital.
The 28-year-old scored 33 goals and secured 17 assists in 49 matches for the London giants in the previous campaign across all fronts. Kane deserves credit for averaging 3.9 shots, 1.4 key passes and 1.5 dribbles per 90 minutes in Premier League football. However, he was sloppy at times when linking up play with others around him, as evidenced by his pass success rate of 69.9% in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
Should Man City Step Up Their Pursuit Of Kane?
Kane is currently amongst the most lethal finishers in European football as he has a knack for finding space and getting a few shots in on-target. He has got the vision to create some decent chances for others around him but can give away the ball carelessly at times in the opposition half, especially when he is not getting enough support up top.
However, there is no denying that Kane is one of the best strikers in the game at the moment, so Man City should try everything they can to bring him to the Etihad Stadium during this summer transfer period.
At 28, the Three Lions star still has plenty of football left in him and would serve as an ideal replacement for Sergio Aguero at the Etihad Stadium. We can expect Kane to add plenty of goals and creativity to Pep Guardiola’s frontline. However, he might not be the best fit for Guardiola’s style of possession-based football.
Even then, the pros outweigh the cons of signing Kane as he might propel the Mancunian giants towards winning the UEFA Champions League in the coming seasons. Therefore, the reigning Premier League champions should consider stepping up their pursuit of the English centre-forward and try to get a blockbuster deal done for him before the end of this month.
