In a recent interview at The Arsenal Lounge, renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are keen on signing Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar in the ongoing transfer window as they have already established contact with his agent over a potential move.
“Aouar is a player they (Arsenal) love. They like Aouar. They are still waiting to see what happens with Lyon.” – The Italian transfer expert said.
“It is a completely different situation when they wanted the player last summer, but it was not easy to find an agreement with the player and Lyon at the end of the window.
“But now he could still be an opportunity for Arsenal and for Tottenham. They are both in contact with his agent.
“So, they are still looking at the situation, and if Lyon will give the green light in the coming days, he could become an option for Arsenal too.”
The Lyon star is believed to be available for just £25 million, almost half of what the French side demanded in the last transfer window.
Aouar’s 2020/21 Season At The Groupama Stadium
With seven goals and three assists in thirty outings, Houssem Aouar did relatively well in a season where Lyon missed out on the fourth spot by just 2 points. The France international managed to put up some decent numbers on the board the last term as he averaged 2.3 shots, 1.3 key passes, 1.5 dribbles, and 1 long ball per 90 minutes in Ligue 1. Furthermore, with 32 passes played per game with a success rate of 82%, he was one of the best distributors of the ball for his side last season.
The Lyon-born sensation is primarily a central midfielder but can also play on the left-wing or as an attacking midfielder when needed. Hence, investing in him could be a smart idea for the present Tottenham squad that lacks depth in the attacking midfield department.
Good Signing For Nuno?
Nuno Espirito Santo needs to add more firepower to his side before the end of the transfer window, especially given the uncertainty surrounding Harry Kane’s future.
At 22, the Frenchman still has a lot to offer, and he has the potential to be an amazing signing for Spurs, so the board should try their best to get this deal over the line in the coming weeks.
