Barcelona welcomed Real Sociedad at the Nou Camp earlier tonight as they hoped to begin the new La Liga season with a win at home. The Catalan giants made a strong start to the game as they scored the opening goal in the 19th minute courtesy of Gerard Pique’s headed goal. Martin Braithwaite doubled Barca’s advantage just moments before the half-time break with a good header.
It was Braithwaite who struck again in the 59th minute as he found the back of the net with a tidy finish. However, Sociedad tried to mount a late comeback through goals from Julen Lobete and Mikel Oyarzabal but Sergi Roberto killed the game off with his injury-time goal. The contest ended with Ronald Koeman’s side securing an impressive 4-2 victory at Catalonia.
