In a recent report, ESPN claimed that Santos striker Santiago Munoz is on track to join Newcastle United this summer. It is understood that the Mexican forward is about to fulfill his dream of playing in Europe by signing for the Magpies before the end of this transfer window (via ESPN).
Munoz’s Rapid Rise In Brazilian Football
The 19-year-old joined Santos back in the summer of 2020 and did well to play a prominent role for the Brazilian club’s Under-20 side last season. Munoz featured in 19 matches for Santos Laguna in the previous campaign, finding the back of the net on three occasions and picking up three assists in the process across all competitions.
The Mexican sensation caught the eye with his performances in Brazilian youth football but still has a long way to go before he is ready to play in top-flight football week in week out. However, he has already begun to show plenty of encouraging signs, so he could be an excellent signing for Newcastle United to pull off in this summer transfer period.
Munoz has what it takes to grow into a future star at the highest level which the Magpies could look to benefit from in the long run. However, only time will tell whether the El Paso-born talent can cope with the physical nature and high intensity of English football if Steve Bruce manages to land him this month.
What Will The Mexican Youngster Bring To Tyneside?
Munoz is a well-rounded forward as he is moderately-paced and can also use his energy and strength to cause a few problems for the opposition centre-backs. He can get himself into some dangerous areas in the final third and is usually a calm finisher up top.
The Mexican whizkid is also a good penalty taker but still has a lot to learn if he wants to become a class act in front of the opponent’s goal. An experienced manager like Bruce could be the perfect man to oversee his development at Tyneside in the coming seasons.
Munoz is currently nowhere near ready to feature for the Magpies in the Premier League. However, he has the potential to break into Bruce’s first team at St. James’ Park within the next few years. Hence, the Tyneside giants would be wise to get the Mexican prospect on board before the transfer window slams shut at the end of this month.
