Amidst reports of turmoil in the transfer market, Arsenal seem to be walking on a silent path. Mikel Arteta has solidified his defence and midfield but is yet to add any attacking flair. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette have been misfiring during their pre-season outings.
The Spanish manager will be looking to add attacking outlets before the transfer window closes and out of favour Chelsea forward Tammy Abraham might just be the easier option for Mikel Arteta as reports of the English striker agreeing personal terms with the club appear. (Mirror)
Ups & Downs Of Last Season
Tammy Abraham had the world on his feet during the first months of the English league. The then manager Frank Lampard put a world of faith in him to lead the line and he delivered as the 23-year-old scored 30 goals in two top-flight seasons at Stamford Bridge. (transfermarkt)
Since the arrival of Thomas Tuchel, Abraham has hardly appeared for the London side and while the talks of Romelu Lukako re-joining the Blues on a record fee appears, the English forward might as well feel his chances to play are little to none.
Abraham initially attracted the interest of Aston Villa, but they were put off by Chelsea’s £40million price tag. The new Roma boss Jose Mourinho is an admirer of the striker and the Serie A side have reportedly agreed on a deal with Chelsea. But Abraham is said to prefer a Premier League stay and has ‘agreed terms’ with Arsenal over a move, according to the Mirror.
How Would Abraham Help Arsenal
The 23-year-old of English striker is relatively young for someone who can lead the line for a Premier League club. However, he provides a different dynamism to any side with his height and lethal finishing. Mikel Arteta will be looking forward to his club captain Aubameyang getting a grip on his scoring abilities soon, in absence of which Arsenal will face a similar fate as last season.
Mikel Arteta bases his team around his wingbacks Kieran Tierney and Hector Bellerin. They often find themselves in a position to cross but are unable to find a viable option inside the box. Lacazette plays the false nine position trying to link with his midfield colleagues, leaving Aubameyang alone up top. Tammy Abraham, on the other hand, is an out and out number 9, providing a focal point of the crosses.
Arsenal are also linked to Dusan Vlahovic of Fiorentina, but the safer option would be to bring in Tammy Abraham on account of him being accustomed to the English game.
