According to Fichajes, Tottenham are keeping tabs on Jayden Bogle. The Sheffield United defender is one of three players the Lilywhites are monitoring in an attempt to further improve their ranks. Bogle is currently contracted to Sheffield United until 2024, but the youngster will be keen on returning to the Premier League next season.
Who Is Jayden Bogle?
Formerly of Derby County youth academy, Jayden Bogle moved to Sheffield last summer, for a fee of almost €4 million. He was brought in add more depth in the defensive unit, especially in the wingback department.
The youngster initially didn’t have any role in the first-team, but as the Blades struggled to put together good performances, he was given a run in. Bogle made his Premier League debut in December, scoring in a draw with Brighton & Hove Albion. He was also the scorer in the FA Cup game against Bristol Rovers.
Soon, the 21-year-old became an ever-present figure in Sheffield United’s wingback system. He mostly operated as a right wing-back offering optimum support going forward and impressing the onlookers with his pace and athleticism.
What Does He Bring To The Table?
As far as his style of play is concerned, Bogle likes to drive forward with the ball, taking on opposing defenders in the process. He is quite good in possession, which makes him an excellent outlet going forward.
Defensively, the former Derby County starlet likes to aggressively press the opposition. Although it does make him quite vulnerable in behind, the youngster does possess good positioning sense, making him a well-rounded fullback.
The very nature of Bogle’s style of play focuses on creating turnovers higher up the pitch and catch the opposition on the counter. It complements his pace and athleticism quite well.
A Good Fit For Tottenham?
The shaky defence has become a real weakness for Tottenham Hotspur recently. While the central defensive unit clearly needs a shakeup, it’s the fullback department that truly lacks discipline and consistency.
Jayden Bogle can help solve that problem with his balanced and consistent play out wide. He can offer better balance in attack while his defensive skills are sure to improve under the leadership of Nuno Espirito Santo.
In fact, Bogle’s ability to operate higher up the mark tunes in well with the Portuguese’s wingback system. As such, he could turn out to be an excellent competitor for the two struggling right-backs in Matt Doherty and Serge Aurier.
He is quite versatile as well, capable of operating on the opposite flank, if required. And at the age of just 21, he could indeed be a smart long-term investment for Tottenham Hotspur this summer.
