In a recent tweet, TSN’s Matthew Scianitti revealed that Liverpool are showing interest in recruiting LOSC Lille striker Jonathan David this summer. It is believed that the Reds are open to launching a move for him if Lille are willing to entertain offers for their prized asset in this off-season.
English sources tell @TSN_Sports, if Lille look to sell Canadian striker Jonathan David to raise funds because of the club’s financial challenges, Liverpool has David very high on the team’s list of potential strikers. Liverpool has long kept tabs on the Canadian’s development.

David’s Successful Campaign In French Football
David enjoyed an impressive season at the Stade Pierre Mauroy after putting in a series of eye-catching performances as the focal point of the Lille attack. The 21-year-old banged in 13 goals and secured five assists in 48 matches for the French outfit in the previous campaign on all fronts.
The Brooklyn-born talent was a decent goal-getter for Lille but struggled to contribute in other ways as he averaged 1.5 shots, 0.9 key passes and 0.6 dribbles per game in the Ligue 1. However, his offensive contributions were enough to help the French side win the league title last season. David distributed the ball relatively well in the opponent’s half based on his pass completion rate of 77.4% in league football (stats via whoscored).
The Canadian youngster has shown plenty of encouraging signs during his time in France, so the Reds will do well to lure him to Anfield before the summer transfer window slams shut at the end of this month.
Will David Be The Right Choice For The Reds This Summer?
David is one of the quickest forwards in French football and can make some well-timed runs in behind the opposition defence. He has scored a lot of goals from open-play and is slowly transforming himself into a decent finisher in front of the opponent’s goal.
The Canadian speedster can even contribute by picking up the odd assist from time to time. However, David has still got a lot to learn before he can become a consistent performer at the highest level. Therefore, Liverpool could be an ideal destination for him as he will get a chance to work with a world-class manager like Jurgen Klopp.
The Lille star will add a lot of pace and goals to the Reds’ frontline and could serve as a perfect back-up for Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino at Anfield in the coming seasons. He would be an upgrade over Divock Origi, who was far from consistent with his performances for the Merseyside club last season.
Klopp can use someone of David’s skillset off the bench which could help Liverpool pick up a few more victories in the upcoming Premier League campaign. Hence, the Canadian sensation will be a decent choice for the Reds to pursue during this summer transfer period.
