In a recent report, Fichajes claimed that Liverpool are set to rival Arsenal for Real Betis midfielder Guido Rodriguez this summer. It is understood that the Reds are showing interest in the Argentine midfielder but are yet to launch an offer for the player (via Fichajes).
Rodriguez’s Solid Season In Spanish Football
Rodriguez was a dominant presence at the heart of Real Betis’ midfield last season when he put in a series of commanding displays in Spanish football. The Argentine midfield ace took part in 38 matches for the Spanish club in the previous campaign, scoring two goals and picking up nine yellow cards across all fronts.
The 27-year-old deserves a lot of credit for averaging 2.8 tackles, 1.9 interceptions, 1.5 clearances, 0.9 shots and 1.0 dribbles per game in La Liga. He even distributed the ball relatively well after making 84% of his attempted passes in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
Rodriguez has proven himself to be a solid defensive midfielder at the Estadio Benito Villamarín, so the Reds will do well to lure him away to Merseyside before the transfer window slams shut at the end of this month.
What Will Rodriguez Bring To Anfield?
Rodriguez is a tough-tackling holding midfielder who can get stuck in with a few tackles to disrupt the opposition’s rhythm in the game. He has got decent defensive awareness that allows him to secure possession back for his team in midfield. The Real Betis star can make some clever runs with the ball towards the opponent’s penalty box.
The Argentine midfield enforcer also doesn’t take too many chances at the back and can clear his lines when required. He is a tidy passer of the ball but needs to find a way to create more goal-scoring opportunities for his teammates up top.
Rodriguez is currently playing some of the best football of his career, so Jurgen Klopp can expect him to make an immediate impact at Anfield. He will undoubtedly bring a lot of bite and steel to Liverpool’s midfield department and could go on to form a dominant midfield partnership with Fabinho at the red half of Merseyside in the coming seasons.
The Saenz Pena-born midfielder could help the Reds compete for multiple trophies over the next few years which makes him a good option for Klopp to consider during this summer transfer window.
