Manchester United succumbed to yet another draw, this time away from home, at Goodison Park as the frustration grows for Jose Mourinho and his band of Red Devils. It all seemed well in the first half when United were clearly the more confident and cohesive team with better quality in important areas but a Zlatan Ibrahimović was not enough to hold on to and the villain of the piece Marouane Fellaini’s trip inside the area was enough to see Baines rescue a valuable point for the Toffees.
Let us take a look at how the Manchester United players performed on the night.
De Gea- 7/10
Had scarce little to do in the first period when the Toffees were finding it difficult to have a sight at goal but was put under the cosh in the dying embers and did well to punch away some ferocious shots. Booked.
Valencia- 6.5/10
Another solid showing by the Ecuadorian. Was extremely solid defensively and always gives attacking options up the pitch.
Jones- 7/10
He is improving quietly and it is as well that his recent performances have gone under the radar. Composed and solid. Not the words one uses to describe Jones’s performance usually.
Rojo- 5/10
Got extremely lucky as a two-footed lunge only got him a yellow. Not his best match.
Darmian- 5.5/10
Average outing for the Italian. Hasn’t quite adjusted to the change in flanks. Looked lost at times and did not influence the game to a great extent.
Carrick- 6.5/10
A solid defensive shift from the pro. Was calm and composed and kept the Everton midfielders at bay.
Herrera- 7.5/10
Slowly becoming an indispensable part of the midfield. His energy levels never dip and he was all over the pitch. Oozes passion and commitment.
Pogba- 5/10
Another almost clueless performance from the world’s most expensive player. Looked lost in midfield. Hard to see Schweinsteiger not able to do what the Frenchman is doing day in day out.
Martial- 6/10
Provided the assist but did little of note thereafter in attack. Tried to focus more on the defensive aspect. Classic Mourinho?
Mkhitaryan- 7.5/10
His quality is undebatable and his movement off the ball and his trickery on it did enough to suggest he can be a permanent part of this side in the coming days.
Ibrahimović- 6/10
Goal aside was anonymous. Did come back to take the ball but his lack of movement and perennial frustration when a pass to him does not work out will not help him in any way.
