According to Fichajes, Tottenham are keeping an eye on Florian Neuhaus. The Borussia Monchengladbach starlet is the club’s desired alternative for top target Miralem Pjanic, as Fabio Paratici looks to enhance the options in the middle of the park. Part of the Germany team in Euro 2020, Neuhaus is believed to be keen on making the next step in his career, with Spurs among clubs interested in his services.
Florian Neuhaus: The Future Of German Midfield?
A product of the 1860 youth academy, Florian Neuhaus is among the up and coming Bundesliga midfielders, having made his breakthrough at Gladbach a few seasons ago. He has since notched up 116 competitive appearances for the Foals, scoring 16 goals and providing 20 assists.
A central midfielder by trade, Neuhaus has turned many heads in the Bundesliga with his consistent performances. His creative prowess, in particular, makes him one of the most sought-after talents in German football, with the 24-year-old capable of threading the opposing backline with precise balls in behind the backline.
The Gladbach star is an able ball-carrier as well, which is often useful when probing the opposition. But unlike his predecessor at 1860 in Julian Weigl, Neuhaus is much more mobile, often looking to put pressure on the ball-carriers whilst using his dynamism to drive forward with the ball.
The midfielder’s performances in recent seasons have already made him a first-team regular for Gladbach. However, his future at Borussia Park appears to be in doubt after the Foals missed out on European football, which won’t go down well with the German international.
A Wise Option For Tottenham?
Tottenham Hotspur are in the market for central midfielders this season and for good reasons. The current three options in Dele Alli, Giovani Lo Celso and Tanguy Ndombele are all viewed as attacking midfield options by new coach Nuno Espirito Santo.
Although Neuhaus, too, is largely an attack-minded midfielder, the German doesn’t usually rely on his dynamism and explosive style of play to craft chances for the opposition. Rather, he is a creative workhorse who can put pressure on the opponents as well as make sensible use of possession.
In many ways, the Gladbach starlet can be a better partner for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg. His technical approach should tune in well with the more robust nature of his Danish counterpart, ultimately adding another dimension to Tottenham’s midfield department.
The 24-year-old is also unlikely to cost a fortune despite the three years remaining in his contract. Gladbach are in need of financial injection and their failure to qualify for Europe might see Neuhaus being offloaded for less than €30 million, potentially making a bargain for Tottenham Hotspur.
