In a recent report, The Athletic mentioned that Manchester City are in advanced talks to land Aston Villa playmaker Jack Grealish this summer. It is understood that Man City consider the English wide player as an ideal candidate to strengthen their squad during this summer transfer period (via The Athletic).
Grealish’s Outstanding Form At Villa Park Last Season
Grealish caught the eye with his performances for the Villans last season when he enjoyed a rich vein of form for them despite missing some key games because of injury. The England international registered seven goals and 12 assists in 27 appearances for the West Midlands club in the previous campaign in all competitions.
The Birmingham-born talent gave a good account of himself from the left side of Dean Smith’s attack as he averaged 1.9 shots, 3.1 key passes and 2.5 dribbles per 90 minutes in Premier League football. He even distributed possession relatively well in the opposition half after making 83.3% of his attempted passes in the English top-flight (stats via whoscored).
Grealish has grown into a world-class attacker at Villa Park, so it is no wonder that Man City are pushing hard to get him on board before the summer transfer window comes to a close at the end of next month.
Will Grealish Be A Good Option For Man City This Summer?
Grealish is a deceptively quick wide player who can be a delight to watch when he is dribbling with the ball at full swing in the opponent’s half. He can drive to the byline or cut inside and whip in a few dangerous crosses into the opposition penalty box. Grealish is primarily a left-sided winger but can even operate as an attacking midfielder or feature as a wide player on the right flank if required.
The Three Lions can even strike the ball with power and accuracy from long range. He has added plenty of goals and assists to his game over the past couple of seasons. Hence, he will fit in quite well at the Etihad Stadium as he would excel playing in Guardiola’s 4-3-3 system in the coming seasons.
However, if Grealish joins the Premier League champions, he can expect to face competition from Raheem Sterling and Phil Foden as they would both be vying for a place on the left wing at Manchester in the years to come.
Grealish could even go on to form a fruitful attacking partnership with Kevin De Bruyne and Riyad Mahrez which makes him a brilliant option for the Mancunian giants to consider ahead of the new campaign.
