Recent reports from The Daily Mail suggest that Premier League giants Manchester United are eyeing a move for Olympique Lyonnais sensation Houssem Aouar as the player’s price tag has been slashed by over 50 per cent compared to last year’s valuation.
Last time out, the Gunners were priced out of a deal for the Frenchman despite agreeing on personal terms. However, the latest report states that a fee as low as £21 million should be enough to lure the 23-year-old midfielder away from Groupama Stadium.
Despite two years remaining on his current contract, the French club is looking to part ways with him as they are under heavy financial pressure due to a crisis over TV deals. As a result, a move could be on the cards.
Aouar’s 2020/21 Season At The Groupama Stadium
With 7 goals and 3 assists in thirty Ligue 1 appearances, Houssem Aouar did relatively well in a season where Lyon missed out on a Champions League spot by just 2 points. The France international managed to put up some decent numbers on the board the last term – averaging 2.3 shots, 1.3 key passes, 1.5 dribbles, and 1 long ball per 90 minutes in the French top flight. Furthermore, with 32 passes played per game with a success rate of 82%, he was one of the best distributors of the ball for his side last season.
The Lyon-born sensation is primarily a central midfielder but can also play on the left flank or as an attacking midfielder if needed. Hence, investing in him could be a smart idea for any side that lacks depth in the midfield area.
Should Solskjaer Go In For Him?
The Norwegian coach has plenty of options to choose from when it comes to the attacking midfield position, and given the fact that Jesse Lingard is in his plans heading into the new season, we doubt if Aouar would be able to secure regular game time at the Old Trafford next season.
Manchester United are in dire need of a defensive midfielder at the moment, so investing in someone like Eduardo Camavinga would make more sense.
