In a recent report, Calciomercato revealed that Manchester City could cash in on Gabriel Jesus this summer amid interest from Juventus. It is understood that Pep Guardiola’s side are willing to entertain offers between €60m and €65m for the Brazilian forward so that they can raise enough funds for some incoming transfers in this off-season (via Calciomercato).
Jesus’ Impressive Season In English Football
Jesus had a successful season at the Etihad Stadium despite struggling to earn regular first-team starts for Guardiola’s senior team. The 24-year-old banged in 14 goals and secured four assists in 42 matches for the Mancunian giants in the previous campaign on all fronts.
The Brazilian sensation showed some consistency with his performances in the final third after he averaged 1.9 shots, 1.1 key passes and 1.7 dribbles per 90 minutes in Premier League football. He was also accurate when interchanging possession with his teammates up top based on his pass completion rate of 85% in the English first division (stats via whoscored).
Jesus’ excellent contributions helped Man City secure the Premier League title last season. However, he was also guilty of missing several key matches because of injury. Hence, Guardiola could be tempted to let him go and bring in some quality reinforcements to fresh up his attack for the new campaign.
Should Man City Let Jesus Go This Summer?
Jesus has decent pace in his locker and can make some promising runs in behind the opposition backline. He is not afraid to work his socks off when leading the line down the middle. The Brazilian also had a decent goal-scoring record for Man City last season which goes to show that he is progressing quite well in terms of his development. At 24, he is about to embark upon the prime years of his career, so Guardiola should think twice before letting him go this summer.
Following Sergio Aguero’s departure earlier this year, the Mancunian outfit are now in dire need to recruit a world-class goal-scorer. However, they might have to sell a few of their first-team stars if they want to engineer a big-money for someone like Harry Kane or Erling Haaland.
Therefore, Man City should only consider letting Jesus leave if they receive a substantial offer for the player. Otherwise, Guardiola would be better off keeping him at the Etihad for at least another season before making up his mind about the striker’s long-term future next summer.
