According to journalist Ekrem Konur, Leeds United are interested in Kristoffer Klaesson. The Valerenga goalkeeper has been identified as a potential replacement for Kiko Casilla, with the Whites apparently preparing a £1 million proposal. Klaesson’s current contract expires at the end of next season, so Leeds United are confident of snapping him up for a cut-price.
Who Is Kristoffer Klaesson?
Part of the Valenrenga youth academy since 2011, at the age of just 11, Kristoffer Klaesson is regarded as one of Norway’s most talented young goalkeepers. He has enjoyed a swift rise to prominence following his breakthrough in the 2019 season.
In fact, the 20-year-old has already featured in 55 competitive appearances for his club. Although yet to win a single cap for the Norwegian national team, the youngster has made a solid impression with his shot-stopping abilities in the Eliteserien.
Standing at 1.89m, Klaesson’s massive figure makes him an intimidating ‘keeper for attackers. It gives him the extra edge when it comes to imposing dominance inside the box, especially during set-pieces. But most importantly, it helps him cover a large area in goal, making him more difficult to beat.
Klaesson’s reach becomes a crucial element in his game, even when making saves. He is indeed an excellent shot-stopper who is ready to take the next step in his career.
An Ideal Replacement For Kiko Casilla?
Leeds United currently have a vacant spot in the goalkeeping department following the departure of Kiko Casilla. The veteran Spaniard joined Elche on a season-long loan deal, leaving Illan Meslier as the only viable option between the sticks.
This is where Kristoffer Klaesson could turn out to be an interesting option as the Whites scour the market for a replacement. As mentioned earlier, the youngster has turned a lot of heads with his performances in Norway and has the potential to become one of the best goalkeepers in Europe.
Klaesson doesn’t have too much experience at the highest level of football. But he does have the characteristics of becoming a great goalkeeper in the Premier League, making him an ideal competitor for Meslier in the upcoming campaign.
Not to mention, the Norwegian is unlikely to cost a fortune, unlike other options available in the market at the moment. Hence, Klaesson could indeed turn out to be an absolute bargain for the Yorkshire giants this summer.
