According to Calciomercato, AC Milan are targeting Serge Aurier. The Tottenham Hotspur right-back has been identified as one of the potential candidates as Stefano Pioli hopes to shore up his options at right-back. The Rossoneri are primarily interested in Diogo Dalot but are attracted by the prospect of signing Aurier due to the fact that his contract expires at the end of next season.
Serge Aurier’s Struggles At Tottenham
Serge Aurier joined Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2017. It was a crucial investment for the north London giants that soon cashed in on Kieran Trippier to Atletico Madrid.
Unfortunately, the Ivorian hasn’t been able to live up to his expectations in the Premier League. While the right-back has mustered 110 competitive appearances for Spurs, he has struggled with his consistency.
Aurier has also had issues relating to lack of fitness and off the pitch controversies. As such, the former Toulouse fullback could only make 19 appearances in the league last term.
It was a disappointing tally for Aurier, considering how new signing Matt Doherty failed to settle in under Jose Mourinho, whereas the youngster Japhet Tanganga spent the majority of the campaign on the sidelines.
Should Tottenham Cash In On Aurier?
Tottenham Hotspur‘s appointment of Nuno Espirito Santo could play a vital role in dictating Serge Aurier’s future at the club. For one, it is fair to point out that the Portuguese tactician knows Doherty very well, thanks to their time together at Wolves.
With Nuno likely to enforce his preferred wingback system at Spurs, it might just help the Irishman come back to life next season. But for Arteta, the club will face a major dilemma, as the Ivorian is not a bad alternative to have at all.
He has a lot of experience at the highest level of football and is a quality right-back on his day. A lot will depend on how much Milan are willing to offer to secure the services of the former PSG star this summer.
Aurier’s contract at Spurs expires at the end of next season, so it won’t be surprising to see the north London giants accepting anything over the €10 million mark. Whether or not Milan can afford such a sum remains to be seen, however.
