Update On Manchester City’s Pursuit Of This English Centre-Forward: Should Pep Get Him On Board?

In a recent report, The Daily Mail offered an update on Manchester City‘s pursuit of Tottenham Hotspur centre-forward Harry Kane this summer. It is understood that Man City will have to pay around £150m to convince Spurs to sell their star striker during this summer transfer window (via The Daily Mail).

Kane’s Stellar Numbers For Spurs Last Season

Kane was once again Tottenham’s top performer last season when he banged in goals for them consistently at the highest level. The England international registered 33 goals and 17 assists in 49 appearances for the North London giants in the previous campaign across all fronts.

The 27-year-old gave a good account of himself by averaging 3.9 shots, 1.4 key passes and 1.5 dribbles per 90 minutes in Premier League football. However, he was a bit sloppy with his link-up play in the final third, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 69.9% in league football (stats via whoscored).

Kane is currently enjoying a successful run with England in the UEFA European Championships which explains why Spurs are demanding such a big fee for him this summer. At 27, the English forward is at his prime and would add a lot of quality to Pep Guardiola’s frontline if Man City decide to move in for him before the start of the new season.

Should Man City Get Kane On Board This Summer?

Kane is a proven goal-getter in the Premier League and can also contribute by picking up his fair share of assists in the attacking end of the pitch. He excels at generating a yard of space for himself and usually tests the opposition keeper with his shot attempts.

The 58-time England international is an unforgiving finisher in front of the opponent’s goal and is a natural leader up top. Hence, he will be an excellent addition to Man City’s squad in this off-season. Kane will undeniably serve as an upgrade over Gabriel Jesus and could prove to be a worthy successor to Sergio Aguero at the Etihad Stadium in the coming seasons.

All in all, the Mancunian giants should think about breaking the bank and orchestrating a big-money move to get Kane on board as he will help them maintain their stranglehold in domestic football and even compete for the UEFA Champions League trophy once again next season.
