Sunderland secured a massive victory against Leicester City as the Black Cats won the game 2-1 in front of their home fans. It was Sunderland’s third win in their last four games which gives them now some ray of hope in terms of the points table. The hosts gave a good account of themselves on the day, playing some nice attacking football showing some real determination and with another three points, they have now a bit of momentum as well as belief in themselves. Let’s take a look at how the player fared in the game, out of 10.
Pickford (6.5/10)
Wasn’t called into action very often but was up to the task when needed. Made a superb save in the injury time to keep the score in favour of his team.
Jones (6/10)
Was good with his forward runs and passing. Supported the team in both the phases.
Djilobodji (8/10)
Looked calm and composed with his distribution. Made some excellent blocks while being dominant in the air and in his defending of the area.
Kone (7/10)
Partnered Djilobodji well with his solid defending. Never panicked and was able to organise his defence pretty well.
Van Aanholt (8/10)
Was the most significant player in the attacking phase with his excellent forward runs. Created 5 chances for his team with very accurate passing as well. Fine fullback display.
Denayer (6/10)
Didn’t do much wrong in the middle before being subbed at the half time
N’dong (5.5/10)
Worked hard but failed to provide the defensive cover in the midfield losing out on his tackles and giving the ball away on occasions.
Pienaar (6.5/10)
Hardworking display by the former Everton man in the midfield as he showed good work ethic but could have passed the ball a bit better.
Watmore (7/10)
Had a strange game where he was really terrible in his passing but looked very dangerous and lively as well making his trademark runs from the deep positions. Completed 6/8 take ons and created 3 chances for his mates as well.
Anichebe (8/10)
Another excellent performance from the forward who has really brought something new to his side with his gameplay. Passed the ball beautifully and utilised his body very well to get the better of the defenders. Put in some very nice balls into the box for Defoe.
Defoe (8/10)
His movement still remains one of the best in the business and so is his finishing as his brilliant reaction shot gave his team the three points in the game.
Subs
Larsson (6.5/10)
As usual was good with his passing and put in the delivery from the corner which yielded the first goal for Sunderland.
Kirchhoff (6.5/10)
Came on at half-time and did his job decently in the midfield. Had a hand in the first goal scored by Sunderland as his header deflected off Huth into the Leicester net.
Manquillo (N/A)
