In a recent interview with the Transfer Tavern, former Newcastle United defender Steve Howey has urged Manchester City to move in for Eintracht Frankfurt striker Andre Silva this summer. Howey said,
“The Bundesliga is still a tough league without a doubt and I do feel as though he (Silva) would do quite well (at Man City).”
Silva’s Excellent Form At Deutsche Bank Park Last Season
Silva enjoyed an impressive campaign while on loan at Frankfurt last season when he managed to put in a series of match-winning displays as the spearhead of their frontline. The Portuguese marksman registered 29 goals and ten assists in 34 matches for the German club in the previous campaign on all fronts.
The 25-year-old caught the eye by averaging 3.7 shots, 1.0 key passes and 0.8 dribbles per game in the Bundesliga last season. However, Silva needs to improve his accuracy when distributing the ball after he completed just 73.4% of his attempted passes in the German top tier (stats via whoscored).
The Portuguese talent’s current contract with Eintracht Frankfurt expires in the summer of 2023, so it would take a sizable offer from Man City to acquire his services before the start of the new campaign. Silva has taken great strides towards improving himself over the past ten months which makes him a good fit for Pep Guardiola’s side this summer.
Should Man City Launch A Move For Silva This Summer?
Silva is a moderately paced forward who can make some well-timed runs with the ball in behind the opposition backline. He can set up some decent chances for his teammates up top and has transformed himself into a clinical finisher in the attacking third.
The 40-time Portugal international has also got a good leap in him that helps him win some important aerial duels for his side. Silva is currently playing some of the best football of his career, so he will be a shrewd addition to Man City’s squad if Pep Guardiola can find a way to bring him to the northwest of England this summer.
At 25, the Portuguese sensation is only going to get better with each season, so the Mancunian giants should consider launching a move for him during this summer transfer window. He will undeniably add a lot of quality to Man City’s frontline and could even serve as a perfect long-term successor to Sergio Aguero at the Etihad Stadium.
