Jose Mourinho is planning a shock transfer for Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic. Manchester United shelled out a whopping £89m to bring Paul Pogba from Juventus in the summer. The French midfielder has, however, failed to replicate the form what he used to do at the Italian club.
Although Pogba is gradually getting back to form, Mourinho wants to add a midfielder who could be a potential replacement to Michael Carrick. The veteran midfielder hasn’t been used by the manager but whenever he has played, United midfield has looked far more stabilised.
Rakitic was signed from Sevilla in 2014 and went on to become one of the most talented playmakers of Europe. The Croatian has a contract till 2019 but Mourinho is confident that he can lure the player to Old Trafford.
The Portuguese wants the Croatian to pair up with Pogba at midfield as his inclusion will give Pogba the license to roam.
However, the midfielder’s agent reveals that the player is very happy at the Nou camp, “Ivan is very happy at FC Barcelona, where he has been tremendously successful and has a contract with the club until 2019.”
