Diario AS has recently claimed that Barcelona‘s contract talks with Ousmane Dembele have stalled with the player yet to respond to their latest renewal offer. It is believed that the French winger could be sold this summer with his current contract at the Nou Camp set to run out at the end of next season (via Diario AS).
Dembele’s Impressive Form At Catalonia Last Season
Dembele experienced some joy with the Catalans last season as he managed to overcome his injury concerns and get a regular run of games under Ronald Koeman’s tutelage over the past ten months. The French wing wizard found the back of the net 11 times and grabbed five assists in 44 matches for Barca in the previous campaign on all fronts.
The 24-year-old deserves some credit for turning his career around and finding some form at the highest level. Dembele averaged 1.8 shots, 1.3 key passes and 2.1 dribbles per 90 minutes in La Liga last season. He even distributed the ball with a lot of conviction from the wide areas after completing 85.8% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).
Despite his good form, Barca struggled to compete for the league title and the UEFA Champions League last season. Unless Dembele pens a new deal soon, the Catalan giants will have no choice but to cash in on him in this off-season or else risk losing him as a free agent next year.
Does Dembele Have A Future At The Nou Camp?
Dembele can use his quickness and agility to pull off some tidy runs in behind the opposition backline. He can turn on the afterburners to lose his marker with ease in the final third and has begun to add some goals and assists to his game as well at the Nou Camp recently.
The Frenchman has done well to avoid getting injured but there are still some concerns over his long-term value as his Barca career has been far from convincing, to say the least. At the moment, Dembele has no future with the Catalans due to his current contract situation.
Maybe it would be best for both the player and the Spanish club to part ways with each other during this summer transfer period so that he can move on in search of greener pastures while the Catalans use the money brought in from his potential sale to make some incoming acquisitions ahead of the new campaign. All in all, Dembele is currently facing an uncertain future but that could soon change if a concrete offer comes in for him this summer.
