In a recent report, The Telegraph has mentioned that Everton are set to rival Tottenham Hotspur in pursuit of Los Angeles FC winger Diego Rossi this summer. It is understood that the Toffees would have to pay around £10m to bring the Uruguayan attacker to Merseyside during this summer transfer window (via The Telegraph).
Rossi’s Outstanding Numbers In The MLS
Rossi has enjoyed a brilliant spell in Major League Soccer since joining Los Angeles FC from Penarol back in 2018. The South American sensation has made 107 senior appearances for the American outfit so far, netting 56 goals and providing 21 assists in various competitions.
The 23-year-old has been a consistent performer at Los Angeles this season as he has banged in three goals in five matches in the MLS. Rossi has caught the eye by averaging 2.4 shots, 1.2 key passes and 1.2 dribbles per game in league football. He has even been tidy when distributing the ball in the opposition half after completing 85% of his attempted passes in the top tier of American football (stats via whoscored).
Rossi is a player on the rise and would be a welcome addition to the Toffees squad if they can find a way to get a deal over the line for him in this off-season. At 23, the Uruguayan sensation’s best is yet to come, so Everton can expect to make the most out of the winger’s talent in the coming seasons if he decides to join them this summer.
Will Rossi Be The Right Fit For The Toffees?
Rossi has decent pace in his locker and can stretch the opposition defence by making some clever runs in behind them in the final third. He has a good work rate and is an exciting dribbler with the ball at his feet. The nine-time Uruguay international can score his fair share of goals in the opposition half but still has a lot to improve if he wants to succeed at the top level.
Joining Everton could be a good career move for the player at this stage of his football career. The Toffees can also benefit from securing a winger of Rossi’s skillset as they are in dire need of adding more firepower up top to ease the pressure off the shoulders of Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin next season.
Rossi will add some goals and pace to the Merseyside club’s frontline and could help them push for a top-six finish in the Premier League next season. All in all, the Los Angeles FC wing wizard will be a good fit for the Toffees as he will enhance the overall depth of their squad ahead of the new campaign.
