In a recent report, The Sun has mentioned that West Ham United are set to step up their pursuit of Manchester United playmaker Jesse Lingard this summer. It is believed that the Hammers are hopeful of signing the English attacker permanently during this summer transfer window (via The Sun).
Lingard’s Impressive Form At The London Stadium Last Season
Lingard enjoyed a sensational loan spell with the East London outfit in the second half of last season. The Warrington-born talent was involved in 16 matches for the Hammers in the previous campaign, scoring nine goals and securing five assists in various competitions.
The England international was a consistent performer as a key member of David Moyes’ frontline as he averaged 2.6 shots, 1.1 key passes and 1.1 dribbles per game in the 2020-21 Premier League campaign. He has even been excellent when distributing the ball in the opposition half after making 83.6% of his attempted passes in the English top tier (stats via whoscored).
Lingard has given a good account of himself in the attacking third but was quite unfortunate to miss out on a place in Gareth Southgate’s squad for the UEFA European Championship this month.
Will Lingard’s Permanent Move To West Ham Be A Good Move For Everyone Involved?
Lingard has got decent pace under his belt and can generate a yard of space for himself to get a few shots in on-target. He is a good finisher in the final third and can also create some inviting chances for others around him in the opposition half.
The 29-time England international has shown that he can be a consistent performer under David Moyes’ stewardship at the London Stadium. However, there are some concerns over whether he can maintain his good form for the whole campaign.
Lingard will bring a lot of quality to West Ham’s attack, so Moyes would be wise to engineer a permanent move for him this summer. The English sensation can benefit from getting his long-term future sorted so that he can solely focus on improving his performances on the field. At 28, Lingard is currently playing at his prime, so recruiting him will be a good move for both the player and the East London outfit ahead of the new season.
