In a recent report, Fichajes has stated that Everton have registered their interest in Barcelona midfielder Miralem Pjanic this summer. It is believed that the Toffees are planning to make an offer between Є20m to Є30m to bring the Catalan midfield ace to Goodison Park in this off-season (via Fichajes).
Pjanic’s Underwhelming Season At The Nou Camp
Pjanic flattered to deceive with his performances for Barca last season as he struggled to find consistency in Spanish football. The Bosnia-Herzegovina international made 30 appearances for Ronald Koeman’s side in the previous campaign but didn’t manage to register a goal or an assist on all fronts.
The 31-year-old got most of his playing minutes off the bench which is why he struggled to be a positive influence on the field. He averaged 0.8 shots, 0.6 key passes and 0.4 dribbles per game in the 2020-21 La Liga campaign. However, Pjanic distributed possession relatively well from midfield after completing 91.4% of his attempted passes in the Spanish first division (stats via whoscored).
Pjanic is not playing at his best at the moment, so a change of scenery this summer could do his confidence a world of good as he could flourish if given the opportunity to play regular top-flight football for a club like Everton next season.
What Will The Barca Outcast Bring To Merseyside?
Pjanic is a set-piece specialist as he can deliver some quality crosses or test the opposition keeper with a worthy effort from long range. He has a wide range of passes under his belt and can create some inviting chances for his teammates up top. However, the 100-time Bosnia-Herzegovina international has not been playing with any confidence of late which explains why he has failed to show any productivity in the final third.
At 31, Pjanic is about to embark upon the twilight years of his playing career and his overall game could be on the decline. However, the Zvornik-born talent has got a wealth of experience at the highest level, so he could be a useful presence in the Everton dressing room if they can successfully lure him to the northwest of England during this summer transfer window.
Pjanic is good enough to secure regular first-team football at Goodison Park and will undoubtedly increase competition for places within the Toffees squad. We can expect him to bring a lot of quality and a winning mindset to the Merseyside club that might help them compete for a major trophy in the coming seasons.
