According to Calciomercato, Tottenham are interested in Maurizio Sarri. The former Chelsea boss is a managerial candidate for Daniel Levy, as he continues his search for a Jose Mourinho replacement. Everton are also believed to be interested in signing Sarri, although Lazio are apparently leading the chase for the Italian tactician, who prefers to remain in Serie A than return to England.
What Does Maurizio Sarri Bring To The Table?
Maurizio Sarri is a well established Italian coach, who made his name at Napoli. The 62-year-old is a proponent of possession-based, attractive and attacking football that also involves a lot of positional discipline and risk-taking.
Sarri is quite successful as well, helping Napoli become Juventus’ main rivals during his time at Naples. He then moved to Chelsea, where he won the UEFA Europa League before coaching Juventus for one season, sealing the Serie A title.
The Italian tactician prefers technical players, who can offer solidity in possession. He also favours the four-man backline, although he is not averse to switching to a wingback system as it does offer his team more assurance in the build-up.
One of Sarri’s biggest strengths is his tactical knowledge of the game, though, at the same time, the former Napoli coach can be quite stubborn. He is nonetheless, a quality manager who shouldn’t have been fired from Juventus in the first place.
Should Tottenham Invest in Sarri?
Tottenham Hotspur have had to endure a difficult spell under Jose Mourinho. Although the Portuguese tactician did play a part in improving the game of Harry Kane as well as bring in Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, the entire team struggled with his defensive mentality.
Someone like Maurizio Sarri, in that regard, could be an ideal replacement, as the former Chelsea manager can re-introduce the attacking football Tottenham are suited to.
Although Kane’s future appears to be uncertain, players like Giovani Lo Celso, Son Heung-Min and Steven Bergwijn are bound to thrive under the leadership of Sarri. Not to mention, the Italian has the experience of managing in the Premier League, which makes him a less risky option when compared to the likes of Paulo Fonseca or Ralf Rangnick.
Daniel Levy, therefore, should definitely look to secure the services of Maurizio Sarri, who is well equipped with the tactical knowledge and the experience to help Tottenham restore its former glory.
